What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?

Mbps (megabits per second) and MB/s (megabytes per second) differ by a factor of 8: 1 MB/s = 8 Mbps (since 1 byte = 8 bits). Internet connection speeds are typically advertised in Mbps; file transfer speeds in MB/s. A 100 Mbps connection downloads at 12.5 MB/s maximum.

What is the difference between Mbps and Mibps?

Mbps uses SI decimal prefix: 1 Mbps = 10⁶ bps = 1,000,000 bps. Mibps (mebibits per second) uses IEC binary prefix: 1 Mibps = 2²⁰ bps = 1,048,576 bps. The difference is about 4.86%. Networking and storage use decimal (SI) prefixes; RAM and binary systems traditionally use binary (IEC) prefixes.
