What is molar concentration (molarity)?

Molar concentration (M) is the number of moles of solute per litre of solution. 1 M = 1 mol/L. It is the standard unit in chemistry and biochemistry for expressing how concentrated a solution is, independent of the molecular weight of the solute.

What is the relationship between mM, μM, and mol/m³?

1 mM (millimolar) = 1 mmol/L = 1 mol/m³. So 1 μM = 10⁻³ mol/m³; 1 nM = 10⁻⁶ mol/m³. The SI base unit mol/m³ is equivalent to millimolar - a convenient coincidence. In biochemistry, μM and nM are used for very dilute solutions like hormone concentrations.
